Matt Stout
Head Coach
Matt Stout became Upper Arlington High School’s 10th head wrestling coach in 2011. Coach Stout is a 1990 Upper Arlington graduate and was a four-year starter for the Golden Bears from 1987-90. During his four years at Upper Arlington, he qualified for the OHSAA State Tournament four times and was the OHSAA State Runner-up at 103 lbs. in 1989. After his senior season in 1990, Coach Stout ranked second in career wins at Upper Arlington and first in career take-downs, 3-point near falls, escapes, and technical falls. He was the team captain as a junior and senior and named Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division Wrestler of Year in 1990, after capping a four-year OCC dual meet run with a perfect 28-0 mark.
Coach Stout attended the University of Michigan, where he was a three-time letter-winner and wrestling team captain (1994-95). He graduated from the University of Michigan Business School with his B.B.A. with distinction degree (Bachelor of Business Administration) in 1995. Coach Stout earned both his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from The Ohio State University in 1999. From 1996-99, he served as a varsity assistant coach at Dublin Coffman High School. In 1999, Coach Stout was named National Assistant Coach of the Year by USA Wrestling Magazine along with fellow assistant coaches Dominic DiSabato and Mike Bulugaris.
From 1999-2011, Coach Stout served as the Director of the Upper Arlington Mat Cubs Youth Wrestling Program. He also served as an assistant coach at Jones Middle School from 2008-2011. In 2021, he was awarded the OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity (SEI) award, which is given annually to one coach within each OHSAA sanctioned sport, with the directors or executive committees of each respective state coaches or allied organization determining the honoree.
