UPPER ARLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

TEAM RULES

1)Eligibility:

-Student-Athletes must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.  The GPA is calculated each grading period.  Eligibility can be maintained, gained or lost each 9 week grading period.

-Student-Athletes must qualify under all rules established by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).

-Provisions may be made for individual students with special needs and/or extenuating circumstances pursuant to Upper Arlington High School (UAHS) policy and procedure.

-Athletic Participation Fee payable to the “Upper Arlington Board of Education” in the amount of Eighty-Five Dollars ($85.00), due before participation in any interscholastic contest.

-Submission of Completed: Physical Evaluation, OHSAA Authorization, UA Emergency Information/Authorization, UA Student Athlete Participation, Athletic Code Acknowledgment, Field Trip, Overnight Field Trip.

2)Participation:

-Wrestling does not ‘cut’ any Student-Athlete.

-Varsity/JV/Freshman team participation is determined by Wrestle-Offs.  Coaching Staff reserves decision making authority to determine participation of Student-Athletes based on extenuating circumstances including but not limited to:  OHSAA point management, violation of team rules, unexcused absence from practice and or contests, best interests of Student-Athlete, and best interests of Team.

3)Weight Loss:

-Weight reduction is encouraged only to the point of removing excess fat and countered by goals of increasing muscle mass.  Any weight loss shall be supervised to ensure proper nutrition is maintained.

-Wrestlers must comply with OHSAA weight reduction guidelines.

4)Lettering:

-20 Points earned in Varsity competition.

-Participation Points:           Dual-1pnt; Tri, Quad, 6-12 Team Tourney-2pnts; 13+ Team                                                                                        Tourney-3pnts.

-Match Result Points:          Fall, DQ, Tech-Fall-3pnts; Major Decision-2pnt; Decision,

(win)                         Forfeit-1pnt

-Tourney Place Points:       6-12Team: 1st -10pnts; 2nd -7pnts; 3rd -5pnts; 4th -2pnts

13+ Team: 1st -15pnts; 2nd -12pnts; 3rd -8pnts; 4th -5pnts; 5th -3pnts; 6th -1pnt

-4 Year Participant

-Coaching Staff reserves authority to award or deny Letter based on extenuating circumstances.

5)Conduct:

-People associated with the Upper Arlington Wrestling Program shall conduct themselves in a manner that represents Wrestling, the Team, the School, the District and the Upper Arlington Community in a positive light.

-Students shall abide by the Athletic Code, Code of Ethics, all applicable Local, State, and Federal law, and a general standard of excellence.

-Respect for teammates, opponents, spectators, property, and coaching staff is not optional.

-Full effort shall be given at all times.

-No dating teammates.

-Each Student-Athlete shall thoroughly wash themselves (using soap) immediately following participation in practice or competition at UAHS, an ‘away site’, or at home–if reasonable.3

6) Penalties:

-Violations of the team rules will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

-Violations of the team rules will be reported to the appropriate office or individual(s) when applicable.

-Student-Athletes and parents are welcome to discuss punishment with the Coaching Staff.

*NOTE: WRESTLING IS A CONTACT SPORT IN WHICH INJURIES MAY BE SUSTAINED
