Matt Stout became Upper Arlington High School’s 10th head wrestling coach in 2011.  Coach Stout is a 1990 Upper Arlington graduate and was a four-year starter for the Golden Bears from 1987-90.  During his four years at Upper Arlington, Coach Stout qualified for the OHSAA State Tournament four times and was the OHSAA State Runner-up at 103 lbs. in 1989.  Upon graduation in 1990, Coach Stout ranked second in career wins at Upper Arlington and first in career takedowns, 3-point near falls, escapes, and technical falls.  He was team captain as a junior and senior and named Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division Wrestler of Year in 1990, after capping a four-year OCC dual meet run with a perfect 28-0 mark.

Coach Stout attended the University of Michigan where was a three-time letter-winner and team captain in 1994-95.  He graduated from Michigan in 1995 with Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Coach Stout earned his JD/MBA degree from The Ohio State University in 1999.  From 1996-99, Coach Stout served as a Varsity Assistant at Dublin Coffman High School.  In 1999, he was named National Assistant Coach of the Year by USA Wrestling Magazine.

From 1999-2011, Coach Stout served as the Director of the Upper Arlington Mat Cubs Youth Wrestling Program.  He also served as an Assistant Coach at Jones Middle School from 2008-2011.

Coach Stout is currently a partner in Public Finance at Bricker & Eckler LLP.

Steve Luke joined the Upper Arlington High School Wrestling Coach Staff in 2011.  Prior to joining the UAHS staff, Coach Luke was an Assistant Coach at Jones Middle school from 2009-11.

A three-time Big Ten Champion and three-time NCAA All-American,  Coach Luke finished his senior campaign at the University of Michigan with a perfect 32-0 mark to claim the NCAA Championship at 174 lbs., capped by an 8-4 decision over Mike Miller of Central Michigan in the 174 lb. NCAA Championship match.  For his efforts, he was named the University of Michigan’s 2009 Male Athlete of the Year, and was awarded the school’s 2009 Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor, an award given annually to a student in the graduating class of each university in the Big Ten Conference that has demonstrated proficiency in scholarship and athletics.

Coach Luke prepped at Massillon Perry High School where he was a three-time OHSAA State Champion and four-time OHSAA State Finalist.  He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2009 and The Ohio State University Pharmacy School in 2013.  He is currently a pharmacist at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Tom Trace joined the Upper Arlington High School Wrestling Coaching staff in 2011.  Prior to joining the UAHS staff, Coach Trace was the head wrestling coach at Jones Middle School from 2008-11.  Under Coach Trace’s guidance, Jones rebounded from an 0-8 dual meet record during the 2008-09 season to post an 8-4 overall mark in 2009-10, and a 10-2 dual meet record in 2010-11.

Coach Trace is a graduate of Whitehall Yearling High School.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Capital University, where he played defensive back on the varsity football team.  He received his Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton.

In addition to his wrestling coaching duties, Coach Trace has been a member of the Upper Arlington High School Football staff since 1999.  He teaches science at Jones Middle School and resides in UA with his wife, Sarah, and their six children: Amy, Betsy, Thomas, Julie, Katie, and Jack.

 

Assistant Coach- Matt Riebel

Dr. Matt Riebel joined the Upper Arlington High School Wrestling Coaching Staff in 2012.  Prior to joining the UAHS staff, Coach Riebel served as an assistant coach for Columbus Academy in 2011.

Coach Riebel is a 1990 graduate of the former Worthington High School and was a three-year starter for the Cardinals from 1988-1990.  At Worthington, Coach Riebel qualified for the District Tournament twice and was elected as team captain as a senior.  In addition, he received awards for the most takedowns and technical falls on the varsity team during his senior campaign for the Cardinals.

Coach Riebel attended Miami University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1994.  He received his M.D. from the Medical College of Ohio in 1999, and completed his post graduate degree in Urologic Surgery in 2005.

Coach Riebel is currently a Urologist in private practice with the Central Ohio Urology Group.

Matt Coleman joined the Upper Arlington High School Wrestling Coaching staff in 2010. Coach Coleman is a 2007 graduate of Massillon Perry High School and was a two-year starter for the Panthers from 2006-2007. Coach Coleman capped his career at Massillon Perry by finishing 6th at 160 pounds at the 2007 OHSAA State Tournament.

Coach Coleman attended Edinboro University from 2007-2009 and was a member of the Fighting Scots’ wrestling team.  He is currently employed as an energy conservation specialist at Atlas Butler, and is pursuing a business degree at Columbus State Community College.
