Upper Arlington Wrestling Alumni, Family, and Friends:
Team 62 of Upper Arlington Wrestling kicked off their 2016-17 campaign this past Saturday at the 29th annual 11 team Lee Spitzer Golden Bear Invitational.  The Golden Grapplers captured the team championship, easily outdistancing runner-up Olentangy Orange by 78 ½ points while crowning five individual champions.  It was the program’s second Lee Spitzer Golden Bear Invitational championship in the past three years and the most dominant tournament victory by an Upper Arlington wrestling squad in 30 years.

Senior captain Slade Morley (285), junior captain Dante Landolfi (195), sophomores Mitch Herren (113) and Joey Orlando (126), and freshman Mason McHugh (138) each captured the championship at their respective weight classes.  Morley, Landolfi, Herren, Orlando, and McHugh recorded a combined 20 falls on the day (out of 24 total matches) to help boost the Golden Grapplers’ team championship effort.   In addition, each scored a fall in their championship match.

Four Golden Grapplers also claimed runner-up honors – juniors Teddy Hill (132), Henry Ledman (145), Seth Morley (160), and Garegin Soghomonyan (170).  Freshmen Daniel Beam (3rd/106) and Jesse Bowers (3rd/120) were additional point scorers for the Golden Grapplers.

The Golden Grapplers will host two home duals this coming week.  Team 62 will host OCC Capital Division member Big Walnut on Wednesday and OCC Buckeye Division member Olentangy Orange on Thursday.  Freshman and JV action will begin at 6 PM with Varsity to follow at approximately 7:30 PM on both nights.

The dual meet against Olentangy Orange will serve as Alumni Night for all Upper Arlington High School Wrestling Alumni and Parents.  All former UAHS wrestlers and UAHS wrestling parents in attendance will receive a free Upper Arlington Wrestling T-Shirt, and all UA wrestling alums in attendance will be individually recognized during a 10-minute intermission halfway through the match.

Following the dual with Olentangy Orange, Team 62 will have nine days off from competition before traveling to the Kettering Fairmont Firebird Invitational on December 17th where they will face a tough 10 team field that will include 16 time defending Division II state champion St. Paris Graham.   Wrestling will begin at 10 AM.
